A Global EyeCare Company

SIFI was established in Catania in 1935 by two pharmacists, Antonino Benanti and Carmelo Chines, as a venture specialising in the preparation of ophthalmic products.

Italian market leader for over 15 years, it develops manufactures and markets innovative pharmaceutical products, diagnostic instruments and surgical equipments for prevention and care of the most common ocular pathologies. It is the only European company which adopts a holistic approach to EyeCare, providing integrated and synergic solutions.

SIFI Pharma products comprises over 50 pharmaceutical forms for the treatment of a large number of eye diseases; SIFI MedTech develops, manufactures and markets surgical equipment and diagnostic instruments.
The company, based in Catania, employs around 425 employees and its turnover figure reached 63 million Euros in 2007; it invested 12% of its turnover in research and development.
The company is making good progress in the implementation of its international
expansion plan. As a matter of fact, pursuing an increasingly significant geographic diversification is a strategic objective for SIFI.
Currently SIFI products are marketed in 15 countries.

The firm possesses a publishing house that has produced the only history of Ophthalmology in Italian language, numerous scientific publications on specific pathologies; it has been publishing L'OCULISTA ITALIANO, a scientific magazine and a reference point for Italian ophthalmologists for about forty years.
SIFI’s press arm was indeed responsible for the publishing of the only Encyclopaedia of
Ophthalmology in Italian, of several scientific publications on specific pathologies and, since
forty years, of L'OCULISTA ITALIANO, a benchmark scientific journal for Italian ophthalmologists.

Since its foundation in 1935, SIFI has displayed a constant commitment to working alongside ophthalmologists. Being close to practitioners, sharing their passion for EyeCare and contributing to the improvement of disease management in ophthalmology is indeed SIFI’s principal concern.
