SIFI for Madagascar
For our most important project we have broadened our horizons by starting a social responsibility programme in Madgascar, one of the world’s poorest countries. The SIFI FOR MADAGASCAR initiative, sponsored by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the General Directorate for Cooperation and Development, is a far-seeing project capable of contributing dramatically to curtail avoidable blindness in an area that totally lacks advanced ophthalmic surgery units. Thanks to the setting up of a new ophthalmology department within Fianarantsoa hospital, the Malagasy community will benefit from new standards of diagnosis, prevention and treatment of ocular problems, particularly related to the anterior segment of the eye – i.e. cataract and glaucoma - , whilst local ophthalmologists will receive extensive specialised training from Italian EyeCare practitioners.
