Sponsored by SIFI, the inauguration is scheduled for April 5th in Marzamemi
Catania, April 1 2019 - SIFI, the leading Italian ophthalmic pharmaceutical company, also a supporter of social initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life of people with disabilities, is pleased to announce the inauguration of the first "Ethical Boat", scheduled for Friday April 5 at 10am in Marzamemi, a seaside village close to Pachino.
The non-profit La Casa di Toti Onlus, an organization SIFI has always supported, has in fact received custody of a sailboat that illegally reached Italy in 2017 with 72 migrants on board, and was confiscated from immigrant traffickers by the authorities. The "Blue Cafe", from now on, will be available for all Italian organizations promoting ethical projects and involving people with disabilities to allow them to spend leisure time engaged in laboratories and activities.
"We wish to team up with all local and Italian non-profit institutions, in order to work together, with the common aim of preparing these young people to deal with life and be self-sufficient " said Muni Sigona, Founder of the Non Profit and mother of Toti, an autistic boy. In addition to opening the association in Modica (Ragusa), Muni is in the process of creating the first Solidarity Hotel run by disabled young adults. "The Blue Cafe will bring smiles to these special children who will be able to sail the Mediterranean on board of this sailboat, but above all, will be able to be part of a project that has neither physical nor mental barriers. "
On April 5th, in Marzamemi, the first Ethical Boat will be officially inaugurated, together with the heroes of this adventure, their families, and the educators of La Casa di Toti Onlus, with the precious collaboration of the Parentage studio from Catania and the Naval leagues of Marzamemi, Catania and Pozzallo, Fabrizio Chines, SIFI Chairman and CEO and Alessandro Benetton. A short regatta will begin at 11.30, towards the island of Capo Passero (Portopalo).
"I am happy to be able to support this initiative," said Fabrizio Chines, SIFI Chairman and CEO "I am particularly proud to support Muni Sigona, a colleague who, besides being a component of SIFI family, is to be admired for her ability to reconcile family, social initiatives and work, while struggling with openness against any adversity, in order to create a better future for her son and for many others. "
"I will be present on Friday April 5th , because the story of La Casa di Toti has really struck me" commented Alessandro Benetton, Chairman of 21 Invest, and SIFI shareholder "This is the project of a mother, that through her love has turned a limitation into an opportunity. It is also a clear evidence of how creativity brings together energies and innovation in hospitality and care, and is the emblematic story of a company - SIFI - that embraces Michael Porter's theory of Shared Valued. This theory applies in Italy to all the companies 21 Invest participates in, creating economic and social value also through enhancing the human capital of its employees by accompanying the growth of a non-profit organization that produces benefits in the local environment. It is in fact a new way of looking at the economy of the future, through environmental and social sustainability ”.
