Eye infections & inflammations
Ocular infections and inflammations include a wide range of pathologic conditions, that can be primary or secondary to a primary illness.
Causes and prognosis range from benign, self-limited illness to organ-threatening pathology.
Clinical signs may include hyperaemia (eye redness), tearing, mild eyelid edema (swelling of the eyelids) and in severe cases photophobia (eye sensitivity to light) and filamentous and viscous secretions.
The treatment of eye infections and inflammations may require the administration of antibiotics or anti-inflammatory drugs, which must be used only after the proper diagnosis and according with the Medical Doctor’s recommendations in order to prevent the dangerous phenomenon of antibiotic resistance.
